Adelaide’s Riverbanks Welcomes New Craft Beer Bar and Restaurant

What’s better than a beer on a sunny afternoon? A craft beer on a sunny deck with a view and some good fare. It’s just one of the reasons we’re excited for the latest addition to our ever-changing Riverbank precinct – Malt Shovel Taphouse Adelaide – located just below the Festival Centre.

The beer bar and kitchen specialises in craft brews and simple, local food. With 48 taps at the bar and a special spit-roaster, this pace is what summertime dreams are made of (or any season dreams if you’re as food and frothy-obsessed as we are at Fritz).

The views from the deck here are about as iconic as they come, too, overlooking the footbridge, Torrens and Adelaide Oval in the distance. Go on, take your interstate and overseas pals for a pint here – you can show of just how spesh our beautiful little city truly is.

But let’s talk beer. There’s sure to be at least 16 different brews on rotation at any given time at the bar, and you can even see the kegs running from the cool room, with a handy little glass panel given you a front seat into the origins of your favourite frothy in-hand. Some of the beers on offer include the venue’s very own Malt Shovel Brewers XPA, Little Creatures XPA and various other brews from the likes of Victoria’s Furphy and White Rabbit.

More of a vino-fan? Fret not. There’s plenty of South Aussie wine on offer, as well as the real-deal French Champagne, too from G.H. Mumm and Perrier-Jouët. What could be better than a glass of bubbly out on the deck overlooking the river? Parfait!

The festive season is the perfect time to over-indulge, and this is the place to do it. Chef Kane Boase is well-versed in the art of crafting delicious plates from fresh, local fare. His food reflects everything that is South Australian, simple and delicious, an ethos reflected in his own life where he lives and works on his own family farm, too.

There’s everything from salt and pepper tofu to rotisserie meats the likes of local lamb and free-range chicken. Eat in the more refined restaurant setting or sit out into the sunshine of the open-plan deck with the sun shining through your amber ale as you munch on some fried chicken.

Date night, boys night, ladies night, mates night, take-the-parents-out-because-its-time-night – whatever ales you (pun intended), Malt Shovel Taphouse has you covered. We’ll see you at the Torrens with a pint (or three).
