So many events, so little time. Highbrow, lowbrow – we don’t judge, you can make up your own mind. Here are a few suggestions for events in Adelaide this weekend if you’re low on ideas.

1. SHE Votes

She Votes 2018

Have your say on the issues that affect women in South Australia. Meet candidates of each political party and ask them the questions that matter to you. Guests include Kelly Vincent, Jayne Stinson, and Tammy Franks. You’ll also have the chance to network with YWCA Adelaide members and advocacy organisations, while discussing the issues close to your heart.

2. Fleurieu Film Festival

Fleurieu Film Festival

Watch a showcase of some incredible short films at Serafino Winery. On Friday there’s a film screening and awards night with live entertainment. All films are under eight minutes long and focus on the theme of ‘fire’. Saturday brings more films to the Yankalilla Golf Club for a feast for the senses under the stars.

3. NOLA At Nexus

If you haven’t experienced a true Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans, here’s your chance. Join the musical street party extravaganza this weekend at Nexus Arts. It kicks off with Chris Weber’s Banksia Orchestra, followed by Melbourne group Horns of Leroy (get your jazz hands ready). It will be a challenge to stay seated, which is just as well as the street parade begins with talented multi-instrumentalist Adam Page leading the Piping Shrike Street Band in their first-ever performance. Bring your own instrument and join in as they snake through West End streets. Crack on back at Nexus with NOLA classics on vinyl.

An Evening Under The Stars

A Taste of Unley Road has teamed up with the Hutt Street Centre to put on an incredible community event filled with music and performances. Watch in awe of Antonio and Kate Villano’s Neil Diamond Experience, whom we recently interviewed about their journey and involvement with fundraising events. “The event will be a wonderful opportunity to relive the songs and stories of Neil Diamond as Antonio pays tribute to such a remarkable man and iconic musician,” Kate says in regards to Neil’s recent Parkinson’s diagnosis. They’ll be accompanied by the Westminster Senior Vocal Ensemble, and you’ll also be getting a taste of 1960s British pop divas by Diane Dixon.

5. Monster Slam

For one night only, the Methanol Burning Monsters are bringing mayhem to the Adelaide Showgrounds with plenty of sky wheelies, side-by-side racing and other freestyle competitions. There’ll be carnival rides, kart racing, a meet-and-greet, plus loads more entertainment. Start your engines.
