Friday arvo knock-offs are the weekly rite of passage that every hardworking South Australian deserves, as they transition from a stressful week, into the next two days of boozy celebration and serious relaxation. In the festive season, there’s even more reason to celebrate with a knock-off.
If you’ve sauntered down Peel Street one too many times and you’re looking for somewhere different to take the edge off the rat race, here’s six places (many new to the scene) to enjoy some after work drinks in Adelaide.
The Golden Wattle
Not to play favourites, but this new kid on the block may be the only restaurant and bar in Adelaide that’ll sell you a fritz and sauce sandwich––clearly, not all heroes wear capes. Wash it down with a few rounds of cold beer and enjoy the nostalgic fit-out, reminiscent of a footy club or rural pub, with a tasteful, modern touch.
Malt Shovel Taphouse
With Riverbank views over the Torrens, and all your favourite craft frothies on tap, expect a fresh and inviting atmosphere from this new venue. If the empty pint glasses on your table are suggesting that you grab a bite to eat, the menu here won’t disappoint––especially for lovers of fine rotisserie meats.
Port Admiral Hotel
The oldest existing building in Port Adelaide has reopened after 10 years, with a charming new vibe bringing the historic icon back to life. Choose from a great selection of South Australian beers on tap, and settle in for a good evening in the front bar, saloon bar, or beer garden of this finely renovated watering hole.
23rd Street Distillery
There’s nothing like a cold gin and tonic to soften the edges of a hard day, except, perhaps a neat hybrid whiskey––depending on how soft you want those edges. Either way, these guys know their spirits, and offer both sunny outdoor seating, and a sleek, speakeasy styled interior. While you’re there, snack on the parmesan truffle fries, which are almost guaranteed to change your life.
West at Henley
Enjoy ocean views from the rooftop deck of this dreamy new drinkery, with a cocktail in-hand, and the sea breeze blowing through your hair. If you get hungry, the wonderful flavours of Melt Pizzeria are just downstairs, and if you get cut-off on your third round of long island iced teas, the Ramsgate Hotel is just across the street.
The Noble Gentleman
Whether you’re a budding sommelier or a proud lover of the goon bag, look no further than this new cellar door and wine bar on Currie Street. Alongside cheeseboards and tapas, their menu hosts a huge list of both local and imported wines, showcasing a new South Australian winery each month.
What’s your poison? Whether you’re dreaming of beer, wine or spirits, when the clock strikes 5, round up your work mates go somewhere new, for the after work drinks you know you deserve.
