The school holidays are here and that means the kids are bugging you to find a bunch of fun events in Adelaide (and its surrounds) to keep them entertained. It’s a tough gig, we know. Lucky for you, there’s plenty of awesome events on this weekend you won’t want to miss.
1. Reclink Community Cup 16 July
Get down to Coopers Stadium this Sunday and cheer on the battle between local musicians and media: Rockatoos vs Anchors. The inaugural charity football game returns for the third year to help raise money for the Reclink Australia charity to continue running music and sports programs for disadvantaged Australians. It’s set to be a day full of food, live music, plenty of laughs and a cracker of a footy match.

2. Umbrella Festival
Adelaide comes alive this weekend with the return of Umbrella: Winter City Sounds. Kicking off this Friday night, the two-week festival, with over 300 live music events across more than 100 different values around Adelaide, will warm your soul and keep you away from the dreaded winter blues. You’ll be spoilt for choice with the extensive program that sees The Tram Sessions – a collection of musical tram takeovers, the family friendly Aqua Beats in Victoria Square, a Winter Island Festival of world music and hundreds more events that’ll spark your interest. 3. Chinatown Bazaar
School holiday fun is sorted for the next two weekends because the Chinatown Bazaar is back for another year. Transforming into a haven of music and fun, there’ll be an array of free activities, games and live entertainment that’ll excite kids of all ages. There’ll even be the chance for the youngsters to get in touch with their creative side at one of the many workshops including: fan making, confetti animal making, panda mask making and rice paper rabbit making. Round up the family and get out of the house this weekend, the event is completely free!

4. Something Something Vegan
Whether you’re a vegan or not, make your way to the the City East Markets this weekend and explore the world of vegan food. You’ll be introduced to some of Adelaide’s best vegan eats, desserts, and scrumptious hot meals and learn a little bit more about products that can reduce our environmental footprint and improve your overall health. We have to admit, some of the vegan desserts we’ve seen look pretty incredible… It’s worth a visit just to devour a few treats.

5. Guitars in Bars
In collaboration with Umbrella: Winter City Sounds, Guitars in Bars is back for another year bringing the live music scene to pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and exhibition spaces across South Australia. If you’re a music loving South Aussie, it’s the perfect way to show support for some of the best musicians from around the world and enjoy live gigs in venues around our state. The beauty of music will brighten your mood even if the weather doesn’t.

6. Winter Chill Sessions
Snuggle up this winter at Serafino Wines in McLaren Vale and relax with a drink in one hand and a delicious bite in the other at their Winter Chill Sessions. Starting up this Friday night, you’ll be treated to chill out vibes, a new acoustic artist playing each week and have the chance to roast a few marshmallows over their brand new fire pit. Running throughout July and August, it’s the place to be to embrace the cooler months with family and friends. Their tasty wines on offer are also a great drawcard if your friends need a little convincing to get out into the cold.

7. Kites, Shells and Sand
Looking for some free activities to enjoy these school holidays? Head down to Henley South Esplanade on Friday and be treated to a bunch of fun activities that are perfect for making the most of a winter beach day. The kids can make and fly their own kite, walk a mandala, create mosaic art, enjoy seaside tunes and take part in a nature scavenger hunt. While the little ones play to their heart’s content, the adults can enjoy the shops nearby and grab a few snacks for a picnic. No need to break the bank these school holidays.

Winter is well and truly here, so get into the spirit, pull out your beanies and get down to the Port to enjoy a week of winter warming wonder. You’ll be treated to a water front ice-skating rink, markets, live music, kids’ activities, workshops and a plethora of delicious food and drink you won’t be able to say no to. It’s for all ages, young and old and the perfect chance to explore the historic Hart’s Mill down at the Port. With a range of new entertainment on offer every day, there’ll be something to keep you interested no matter what time you drop in for a visit. And for the adults, there’s even cocktail making workshops to have a little fun with! So strap your skates on and don’t miss this.

Plan Ahead: Family Fun Fair
We’re giving you a hot tip for next weekend’s events, plan a great day out at the Family Fun Fair at the National Railway Museum. There’ll be three separate train rides the kids can jump on, Punch & Judy shows, Aussie wildlife, face painting and games and a whole heap of song and dance that’ll bring the whole family to life. The Rotary will also be putting on a BBQ so you can enjoy a few snags while kicking back to enjoy the day. It’s the last weekend of the school holidays, better make the most of it!
