Top Eight Events In Adelaide, 10 January

Hello 2018, back to the daily grind we go. The school holidays are still kicking on and there are heaps of events in Adelaide this weekend to keep the back to work blues at bay.

1. Adelaide French Festival

This weekend there is an epic level of Francophile adoration happening as Adelaide comes alive with the tastes, sounds and sights of all things French. The weekend is packed with events encompassing film, music, art, theatre, a French perfume masterclass, cooking demonstrations, and plenty of foodie feats to leave you drooling. Kicking off with So Frenchy, So Chic on Friday, you can get into the mood with Champagne and tunes as the sun goes down. Tres chic.

2.  Greek Festival Semaphore

Greek Festival Semaphore

Make sure to leave your stomach empty for this delicious occasion. The Delphi Bank Greek Festival is a two-day event packed with food, fun kids’ activities, music, and a space to celebrate Greek culture with South Australia’s broader multicultural context. Did we mention the food? In its 39th year, this is one of the largest Greek festivals in Australia. Don’t worry about the showers forecast for the weekend – they’ll be clearing up early Saturday arvo in anticipation for a weekend by the shore.

3.  Santos Women’s Tour Down Under

Santos Women’s Tour Down Under

Ahead of the main event the Women’s Tour Down under begins on Thursday 11 January, with four stages over four days of action. It’s going to be an epic ride and you can pick and choose your locations or get along to all the stages. This year the women’s tour is upgraded to a UCI 2.1 event – meaning it is just one level below World Tour status. Watch out boys.

Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 January, various times and locations. FREE.

4. Beachfront Twilight Markets

Beachfront Twilight Markets

Start your weekend by the beach at Lollipop Markets’ plentiful stalls of bits and bobs. Have a unique shopping experience in the twilight hours in the city of Holdfast Bay. A family friendly event with plenty of food and entertainment. The markets carry a range of jewellery, plants, designs, artworks, and unique creations for sale, retailed for people of all ages. Plenty of handmade boutique items to go round, and plenty of relaxed vibes if you’ve gone back to work this week.

5. Tourrific Prospect – Chalk Art Project

In the lead up to the Tourrific Prospect Street Party, the streets of Prospect are being chalked in a dazzling array of colours and bicycle inspired artworks – and the little ones can join in too. Just pop by the Prospect Civic Centre to pick up your free chalk art templates, and packs of colourful washable chalk. If you use the #TourrificProspect hashtag and share your creations on social you’ll go into the competition for the best art, where the winner will be announced at the event on 15 January.

6. Tarnanthi Sunday Sessions

Tarnanthi Sunday Sessions

The Art Gallery of South Australia is launching a series of live music sessions to celebrate the final weeks of Tarnanthi. Showcasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent, the free afternoon jams are on Sunday’s throughout January. It’s a wonderful way to spend a Sunday arvo, before the Monday dread hits. This week Sue Ray and Nathan May will be performing. Expect sultry vocals from Ray and modern folk from May.

7. Unley Gourmet Gala

On the eve of Unley’s Stage 2 Start of the Santos Tour Down Under, head to the Unley Gourmet Gala for some after-work drinks and a delicious feed. If you’re lucky enough to still be on holidays, bring the kids for some fun activities alongside a line-up of entertainers and musicians. Surround yourself with all the gourmet food stalls you could hope for, with fashion parade appearances to showcase what’s new for next season.

8. Tourrific Prospect Street Party 2018

Tourrific Prospect

This annual street party returns to Prospect, celebrating the Prospect community in a night to remember. Live music and tempting food stalls are just a small part of the offering. Expect old and new bands, street artists and performers in a colourful ode to the community’s diversity. Relaxed, family friendly – and a whole lot of fun. What more could you ask for?
