School holidays have kicked off, Christmas is on the horizon and the silly season is in full swing. Deep breaths. It begins. Here are the top nine events in Adelaide this weekend.

Twilight Races

Bro Power

Celebrate the start of the silly season by going trackside with some bubbles and your besties at the Twilight Races this Friday night. You’ll be right in the thick of the racing action and you can dance the night away thanks to DJ entertainment. There’ll be lively bars and roaming cocktail food – so if you haven’t organised the end of year Christmas show yet; this could be a winner. Private marquees are available as part of a package.

Hahndorf Christmas Village

The charming town of Hahndorf transforms this weekend into a Christmas miracle for all your gift shopping and festive needs. The town’s boutiques, shops and galleries will be open late to get your hot little hands on some amazing locally made products. There’ll also be an abundance of entertainment for the whole family including live music, delicious food and an appearance from the big man in red himself. Be sure to check out the European-style Christkindlmarket while you’re in town too. It’s been named the Southern Hemisphere’s best Christmas market by Jetstar.

Swan Lake Remixed


This is the Swan Lake classic with a twist. Set outdoors, condensed into an hour and performed through immersive dance, the show will have a remixed musical score and a selection of local food trucks and small stalls on offer. It’s absolutely free so be sure to check out this one of a kind community performance.

Westminster Christmas Lights


Feast your eyes upon thousands of twinkling fairy lights, Santa’s magical Christmas Kingdom and the illuminated stained-glass window of the Chapel at the Westminster Christmas Lights. Lighting up from this Thursday, the magical eight-day display is a breathtaking free community event put on by Marion’s Westminster School. It may even warm the heart of the biggest Scrooge in Adelaide, you can view glorious lights in by taking the walking trails or driving through.

The History of Whales At The Maritime


It can be hard to fill the kids’ school holidays with activities both exciting and educational, but we’ve got your back. This new exhibition will have them rattling on about whale facts for weeks and give them the chance to consider the cultural history and future of these great mammals. From artefacts to virtual apps, the exhibit is packed with intriguing displays. The event is free with a museum admission ticket, so why not make a day of it?

Fun In The Square


Round up the kids and get ready for Fun in the Square this weekend as Victoria Square/Tarndanyangga, becomes a Christmas wonderland. With decoration-making for the kids and present wrapping workshops for the parents, amusement rides, games and activities, it’s bound to be a real treat. There’ll also be circus acts, comedians, magicians and brass bands underneath the giant Christmas tree.

Merry Merry Purple Stirling Laneways


While the Northern Hemisphere celebrates a frosty white Christmas, here in Adelaide the streets are covered in their own special summer snow – the fallen petals of the Jacaranda tree. Stirling Laneways are known for celebrating the ever-changing colours of their picturesque streetscape and this time it’s all about celebrating the festive season in all its purple glory. There will be markets stalls, entertainers, mouthwatering morsels and an atmosphere as vibrant as the foliage. Don’t miss it.

Spaces Between Exhibition

Cult and Harper
